The SOS Story

Behind SOS

Sharon and Mort Mazaheri were shocked in the fall of 2013 when they learned that some high school seniors couldn’t walk in their graduation ceremonies because they couldn’t afford a cap and gown. Wanting to help, the couple wrote a check to an area high school to purchase caps and gowns for students in need.

“When we learned about how desperate the needs are for some of the students in this district, we were shocked,” said Sharon Mazaheri. “It was a real eye-opener.”

Six years later, their desire to help area students with basic educational needs has blossomed into a non-profit organization, Support Our Students, that each year raises tens of thousands of dollars to help students with the costs of graduation, advanced placement testing and other basic necessities.
